About Gosia Smith

Gosia Smith is a Poland-based artist working at the intersection of traditional painting and new media. Her work explores the relationship between people, humans and technology. Music is a major influence on her practice, which led her to painting album cover art alongside her fine art work.

She studied Fine Arts at AKI ArtEZ Academy of Art and Design in Enschede, Netherlands, working across painting, sculpture, photography, film, performance, printmaking, and graphic design. She is currently studying Media Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.

Her work has been shown in solo exhibition and group exhibitions in Poland and the Netherlands. Her artworks are part of private collections in Poland and the Netherlands.

Light Painting is Gosia Smith's signature body of work: a hand-painted canvas with a hidden layer that appears when the lighting is switched on. The owner controls it through an app, adjusting color, brightness, light effects, and a mode that syncs to music.

She started developing this technique in 2021, combining traditional painting with light and interactivity. Each Light Painting is one of one. It sits between two worlds: a traditional painting technique and a living, interactive artwork that changes with the person who owns it.
